Import from Letterboxd

Updated September 15, 2026

Letterboxd is for films. If you also watch shows and want both in one place, upload your Letterboxd export ZIP as it is: your films, ratings, diary dates and watchlist come over, and your shows go next to them.

What comes over

File in the ZIPWhat becomes of it
diary.csvOne viewing per entry on its Watched Date; the film becomes Completed. A rating on the entry comes with it.
watched.csvFilms marked watched, Completed, dated by the entry date.
ratings.csvYour star rating on each film, converted out of ten.
watchlist.csvWatchlist entries.
likes/, lists/, reviews.csv, comments.csvSkipped.
The import preview: the counts, then every title in the file with its year, the status it will get, its episodes or plays, its dates and its rating.
The preview: the counts, then each title and what will happen to it, nothing written yet.

Step by step

  1. Export from Letterboxd. On letterboxd.com: Settings, then Data, then "Export your data". You get a ZIP with watched.csv, diary.csv, ratings.csv and watchlist.csv, among others.
  2. Create your account, or sign in. An account is free: create one, or sign in. Pick your language during the short setup; titles and overviews follow it.
  3. Open the Import page. Settings, then Your data, then "Import from another tracker". Or go straight to imwatchingthis.com/import.
  4. Choose the ZIP as it is. The importer reads the four files that matter and skips likes, lists, reviews and comments. The page shows what it found: movies, ratings, watchlist entries.
  5. Start the import. Press "Import N titles". Letterboxd exports carry no ids, so films are matched on TMDB by title and year. That is exact for almost everything; a rare remake with the same title and year can need a second look.
  6. Check "Not matched". Anything that could not be matched with confidence is listed with a search button. Everything else is already in your library.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. There is no paid tier and there are no ads.

What happens to my star ratings?

Half-stars out of five become a rating out of ten: 4.5 stars is 9, 3 stars is 6. A rating you already gave here is kept.

Are my watch dates kept?

Yes. A diary entry's Watched Date becomes the viewing date. A film that is in watched.csv but not in the diary gets the date the entry was made, which is the closest thing the export has.

Can I import just one CSV?

Yes. diary.csv, watched.csv, ratings.csv or watchlist.csv on its own works, and so does a file in Letterboxd's own import format (Title, Year, imdbID, tmdbID, Rating10, WatchedDate), where the ids make the match exact.

What if I import the same file twice?

Nothing changes the second time. An import only adds: it does not remove a title, lower a status or replace a rating you gave.

Do my lists and reviews come over?

No. Lists, likes, reviews and comments are skipped. Lists can be rebuilt from the Lists page and made public there.
